Why Are People Making Tornados with Soju Bottles?

Korean people gathering enjoying a meal

Have you ever been to a gathering where Soju was being shared and noticed people doing interesting moves with the bottles? From making tornados to hitting the bottom of the bottle with their elbows, and tapping the neck of the bottle, it’s a fascinating sight to behold.

The swirling motion created when making a tornado is not only mesmerizing and impressive, but people say that it also serves a practical purpose. By mixing the Soju and distributing any sediment or particles that may have settled at the bottom of the bottle, it results in a smoother and more enjoyable drinking experience.

Hitting the bottom of the Soju bottle has become a popular ritual that is believed to release any bubbles or carbon dioxide that may be present in the drink. This makes it easier to drink and reduces the risk of bloating or indigestion. Not only that, but it also adds a fun and playful element to the Soju drinking experience that is sure to make everyone smile.

Tapping the neck of the bottle before opening is also a popular Soju ritual. It is believed to release the aroma and flavour of the Soju, making it more fragrant and delicious. It also adds an element of anticipation to the process, enhancing the sensory experience of drinking Soju.

While these rituals are not scientifically proven, one thing we do know is that they add an interesting and playful element to the Soju drinking experience. Next time you share a bottle of Soju with friends, try out these fun and playful rituals, and enjoy the unique and unforgettable experience of drinking Soju together!
